Ode to Boy

Yesterday Alex turned nine - so I want to take a quick time out from the usual fibre torture to wish the best and nicest kid I know a wonderful happy birthday.

Alex arrived in the world after a peaceful (well, peaceful for everyone except me) homebirth - I don't even remember him crying. Just looking around with this look on his face of interest and acceptance. Kind of "cool, I thought it would look different but I can deal with this." He was a strong 10 lbs 12 ozs (no joke - the first thing the midwife said was "would you look at the adipose tissue on him!" - btw, it isn't the weight of the baby but the size of head and shoulders vs. your pelvis that matter, although it did make for an uncomfortable final month of pregnancy).

He hasn't changed much since then. Alex holds his feelings close most of the time (except his siblings - particularly Madeline who can really make him mad) and has always been sweet, cuddly, physically strong and relatively un-demanding. Often he will be upset because he asked me to do something and I refused but because he always asks the same way it can be hard to tell what really matters to him.

So my love, a very happy, if somewhat belated, 9th birthday!
(P.S. Apologies for creepy mascot picture...really sorry...they were really creepy)
