Humidex hell...and is it true that I am a SIM?

Thanks to all for your comments on yesterday's post. I am debating bringing the album to therapy tomorrow but the fact that I'm hesitant may mean I'm not ready to be out loud about how all this made me feel.

Onto lighter topics:

Today's humidex advisory is for "Close to Hell" - and the province of Ontario is asking us to please turn off the air conditioners. So I did. And I expect to come home to cat hair EVERYWHERE. That should be fun.

Now, I don't know if anyone else in the world out there ever succumbs to the draw of running another person's life for a while? But me, I've been playing the Sims 2 for the last two days and I would like to share some observations in no particular order:

1. My household consists of two Sims - Fiona and Caleb Desmond. At this point they are happily regarding one another as best friends despite my attempt to get them to hook up. Clearly since no one at my house is getting laid at the moment it is important that the virtual people get some action. I've tried various things to get them together. I managed to get a good necking session going for about a minute but then Fiona tried to kiss Caleb again and he pushed her away. Perhaps he is gay? She's not his type? In which case should I change her last name? Maybe they are siblings and I'm forcing them into an incestuous relationship?

2. The amount of time the Sims need to sleep and regain full energy is ridiculously short. So my guys are often wandering around at 2:30 a.m. At the same time, it isn't unusual for bathroom breaks to take 20 minutes (good thing there are portable games and magazines in the bathroom). Am I the only one who finds this a problem.

3. Fiona needs to increase her cleaning skills to get ahead in her job at the research lab. Apparently this can be accomplished by reading books! She has also hired a maid to clean the house which is a relief for me because taking out the trash was taking nearly 1/2 an hour.

And finally - having played a number of different characters I have noted that I am most successful with SIMS who don't need many friends. Fiona has not yet taken up knitting and as far as I can tell there are no animal companions available to me in the game so I have not yet turned her into to me.

What does it say about me that my best Sims are shy and serious? hunh? tell me!

Okay I don't know exactly what SIMS is or where you go to do such time-consuming gaming (do I sound bitter about not having the time to find out?!) but I will say that the concurrent lack of knitting going on (on, oh, say, maybe, I dunno, let's say the future birthday-clapotis-to-be) is slightly worrisome. Will the kitting goddess turn into computer gaming geek, leaving my neck and shoulders exposed to horrible winter chills? Tune in next time... when maybe the humidity will break and handling yarn won't be the most sweaty gross thing ever :)

Do not fear - clapotis progress was made this evening after email from the ex reduced me to tears. I just can't handle mundane lives of simulated souls in the face of emotional crisis. So it was a clapotis/dishcloth relay with some Lost thrown in for extra distraction.

As for the time - kids are chez K&S this week and I decided to check out of reality for 8 hours that I will NEVER get back again - and I only have a sore neck to show for it.

Sims 2 is the best, next to knitting. It's my other vice too and when I start I can't stop for the rest of the day and night. Hooking up your Sims can be hard - they have to be well fed, rested, bathed,in a good mood etc. to kiss and get their relationship points up to love. Then you can have them relax in bed together and woohoo. I agree that making bunches of friends is a full-time chore for Sims, so don't pick popularity as an aspiration. Military people usually don't need friends much career-wise. And have you heard, the next expansion set is going to give the Sims 2 pets!
