I survive another year…

I have the awesome pleasure of celebrating my birthday on Remembrance (Veterans) Day. In some ways this is good – I am a government employee so I generally get a statutory holiday – and in other ways it is bad. Like when people are crying and saying depressing poetry, and playing funeral music and lonely sounding taps on trumpets in the rain.

In some ways, I feel rather guilty about it – like I’m holding this secret happiness when I should be remembering. That many many many people died so I could have the pleasure of living and celebrating these birthdays year to year. It adds a dimension of seriousness to a day I would prefer to keep light and fun.

Plus, it’s ALMOST ALWAYS RAINING. I believe that is sympathetic irony –for the veterans, the families who have lost members to war and conflict but also for the millions of us who’s personal time clocks go off and need to be reset on November 11th.

But just in case you think I suffered in the rain…let me assure you that I spent my day entertaining children, having an amazing dinner with my kids and parents. And my mom gave me this…

She did good.

(that’s 300 g of Fleece Artist handpainted Blue Faced Leicester roving in some amazing colourways. That she bought while travelling around Nova Scotia this summer. I kind of grabbed her arm and almost swooned when I asked her if she had actually GONE to Fleece Artist – but I think she may have been at Baadeck. She has NO IDEA what she did!)

Other knitterly things…

See...I was there!
